Passion and commitment

Families and communities in Flinders need a Member of Parliament who will express and fight in our South Australian Parliament for their values and beliefs, their ideas, their needs and aspirations, their vision, and their hopes.
I have nominated as a candidate in the electorate of Flinders because I have the passion and commitment to community that cannot be swayed by party politics or bias.
I have the life experience, the knowledge, and the personal skills and abilities which have enabled me to live and work successfully with people from all sections of our community.
I live my life according to the values of family, faith, and service to others which are my personal foundation.
Our communities are driven and developed by the energy and passion of community leaders, volunteers and their families, by local business and enterprise, by community organisations including sporting, cultural, service, and recreational organisations, and by service providers including our schools and health centres, and social services.
The role of the local councils, local industry organisations, the local Natural Resource Management Board, the local Economic Development Board, and local enterprise committees — all play a part in the ongoing development and sustainability of country communities in Flinders.
These groups within our community are the most important assets we have. The role of government is to provide the framework of legislation and support services to enable country people and families to get on with the job of making and sustaining communities.
I believe all country children need greater educational choices and opportunities.
I believe all country people and their families should have adequate access to services, no matter where they live and work.
I believe all country people deserve the opportunity to know who their local candidates really are inside, and what they stand for, rather than being told more about city based leaders in two major parties, for whom they cannot vote and who campaign on sports stadiums the city of Adelaide might have.
I believe the strength and future of our communities lies in the people who live and work in them.
I believe our State needs to make sure, through a “Royalties for Regions” policy, that country areas receive an ongoing funding stream over and above general budget revenues, to support economic and social development in country communities and to recognise the wealth that country SA generates for the whole of our State.
I believe the SA Parliament belongs to all South Australians, not political parties, and should rightly be seen as the People’s Parliament, and not a place dominated by party politics and ongoing four– year election campaigns.
When the focus shifts away from people and to party politics and power struggles, Country SA misses out.
Country communities need representatives who can work with whichever political party is in government, and with all the government agencies, to make sure the balance is right in legislation and budgets.
In that way, your MPs provide the legislative and resource framework that allows country communities to more than survive – they will thrive, to the benefit of all South Australians.
